On the old IDE standards you can have 2 HD/CD/etc on the same ribbon/channel. What about SATA, is it 1:1. Or can you have more than 1 SATA device on the same cable?
 
the sata cables have only one connector for the board and one for the drive. and thats it.

ok, so that's the picture of the cable that came w/ my WD raptor. however, w/ my msi board, I got 2 cables that appear to be SATA cables but instead of the 1 big end and 1 small end like the picture above.. it's just got 2 small ends. do different sata hd's have different attachments on the drive itself?
 
the one with the big end is the same thing its just more secure, the normal sata cables that come with the motherboard and hard drives work, they just are kinda of flimsy after you plug it in. Try it out, plug in ur hard drive, and you can wiggle it a little. some ppl dont like that so they buy the one with the big end.
