SATA question(s)

So, about a month ago, i bought a WD Caviar 320GB SATA II 16mb cache hard drive, when i got it, i plugged it into the onboard SATA II jack on my mobo, but when I ran a program called bootvis, it said that disk cache was NOT enabled....so i went to the properties of the drive, and found it was disabled, and was greyed out and could not be enabled...so i shut down the computer ,puzzled, and thought what would happen if i plugged the hdd into the SATA I (one) port...so i did...then when the computer turned on...it found the drive...loaded drivers...and then i went properties...it had disk cache enabled, now i was even more puzzled, should i leave it like this, or plug it into my SATA II port where it should/might/could be faster....
so my questions summarized...
would it work faster in SATA w/cache or SATA II w/o cache?
is there any way to enable cache on SATA II?
and
what would you suggest?

hmmmmmmmm...
im puzzled to.
I alwasy thought that Satta II port were compatible with Sata I drives (backwards compatibility and all that jazz)....

However! if it aint broke, dont fix it....

and there is NO drive tday that can even max out the Sata I bus...

It's probably just an idiosyncrasy of the sata II drivers. Disabling cache would give tremendously different results in benchmarks; have you tested it both ways?

I have never benched a hard drive...Do you recommend any specific programs?
