SATA+PATA raid?

You could also just use XP's dynamic volume to expand across multiple disks without any additional hardware.. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308424&sd=tech

I was actually going to use it for raid1..
I'm still looking, thinking of looking for a raid5 card with the same capabilities.
I'm thinking I can convert sata->pata or pata->sata and maybe get an all-sata card, and when I can, replace the pata drives with sata drives.
I've got 4 drives, all the same size, just 2 are sata, 2 are pata

What motherboard do you have? I know some Intel chipsets can do RAID 1 (or 0) between PATA and SATA drives. So you might not have to purchase anything..
And I was using a converter for about a year, then it started giving me trouble (PATA drive on a SATA controller) and I removed it.. then I went to a new SATA drive, and moved the old PATA drive to a 2nd system.

Also with 4 drives, and RAID 1.. why not just RAID the two PATA together, and the two SATA together.. Because if you RAID all 4 into one RAID 1 volume, you would have the total capacity of 1 drive, and 3 could fail before you lost data.. lol
EG: 120GB x 4 in RAID 1 = 120GB total.

Well, it would have been raid 0+1 actually.
4 x 160 = 320gb
System in question is dell sc420 server
raid 0 or 1 on sata
nothing on pata
pata is just basically, for the optical drives, etc..
have been considering
Raid 1 on sata (160gb total from 2 160gb seagates)
and raid1 on pata via a controller card with just ide ports for 160gb there too.
two seperate volumes.
