SATA Partitioning

Hey Everyone,

I just got my seagate 200 giger. I've got a Raptor 76 also that i've partitioned in disk management.

I'm trying to partition my 200 giger into 3 in disk managment and its not giving me an option. The drive is picking up as a simple drive, why's that?

I would kill the partitions on there and start over. Dynamic Disks create more problems then they are worth if you ask me.

Hmmm...I wonder what you keep on your G drive?

Id say ditch the Dynamic Disk as well (Right Click > Revert)
your problem is that it is already partitioned, its a simple volume
use a basic disk

also

you are allowed either 4 primary partitions

or

three parimary paritions and one extended partition, with its own logical drives

per HDD

personally I stick with primary partitions for the first 3
extended paritions are dependent on the primary they are an extention of

Id say that is a good guess


with that empty 200GB now is the perfect time to alter your partitioning strategy, while you have the room to move everything around

but I would verify files\directories by running checksums before I deleted them
(copy test delete copy back test delete)
good time to integrity test transfers

I'm not trying to use a dynamic disk. I want it to be like the other disk space. I popped the drive in, formatted and this is what it left me with. I want to partition it into 3 just like my 160 gig maxtor but its not letting me when I right click it. I want to know why its doing that

I'm going to try and partition it in windows setup right now.

Look at the color code, it IS a dynamic disk specifically its a simple volume
thus its already partitioned and formated, delete the partition, the revert the disk to basic
repartition and formatn

and do it from Disk Management

yea Ive tried that. It wouldnt let me revert it back to basic.

I checked out seagates' website and got this disk thing and got it workin correctly now, thanks for the help guys
