SATA or Ultra ATA

I got an Ultra ATA Drive (thinking it was a "cool" way for Seagate to rename SATA lol)

And Im wondering if its worth it to exchange it.

Although there my be a significant difference in the numbers between the 2, is there a big difference when your actualy using both?

Can anybody who made the change plz tell me what they think?
Durring what will the comp be slower? loading, starting up, ect?

also what are the data speeds for both?

aside from the cabling, sata offers no real-world performance increases.

Basically, SATA is nice, I love sata for the ease of setup in my case, but as long as both drives are physically the same (buffer size, platter size, rotational speed) you wont see a dime's worth of difference in them. There are people who will tell you about NCQ'ing, TCQ'ing etc, but those havent been shown to offer performance increases in single-user mainstream applications.

You will be happy either way.

I'd get sata just because its cleaner in my case. Thats just me.
 
Native/Tagged command queueing just makes multiple simultaneous request handling more efficient. If you've got a bunch of users or apps accessing the HD at the same time, it'll reorder the disk accesses to get them done as quickly as possible.
Even with NCQ/TCQ, the fastest way to do things is still to read one file at a time unless they're spread across multiple disks or you're dealing with a bunch of small files. Most desktop apps that read large amounts of data in a burst are reading relatively large chunks- games, image & video apps, etc. If you launch Mozilla, Firefox, Word, and Excel at the same time you'd probably see a difference with N/TCQ. But it won't to squat for game load times or opening a big photoshop file unless something else is using the disk at the same time.
As for exchanging it, unless you're short on PATA ports I wouldn't bother unless it's easy (you got it retail & can just take it back) and there isn't a significant price difference. Really good deals on PATA drives seem to be fairly common (I got a 160GB Seagate for $50 last November), but are much more rare on SATA models.
