SATA Optical drives and AHCI

I got a couple of SATA DVD drives so I can just ditch the whole IDE cable thing for good. I'll be running my HDDs with AHCI on my motherboard but I'm wondering if this will cause problems with SATA Optical drives. Will they be able to run in the normal PATA mode when AHCI is enabled?
