Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it! I just bought a 300gb Seagate with Serial ATA and I want to use it for extra storage and video capture. My primary drive is a Western Digital IDE (replacing soon). After plugging everything in and following the instructions in the manual, my computer still doesn't detect the SATA drive.

My motherboard is an IC7-G. Are there any drivers that I have to install? Is there a setting I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is the hard drive just not recognised in my computer? is it recognsed when you boot up the computer if so you need to format the drive when you get in to windows the easy way is to go to:

control panel->Administrative tools->Computer managment->storage->Disk management

then you drive should be there if it was installed correctly then in start the drive and hit format

hope this works for you :)
 
No, it's not recognized at all. I really don't know what I did wrong in the installation.
 
If not at all then try 2 things.. First check the connections.. 2nd check the bios. I believe that the sata ports are off my default...
 
What they said. If that doesn't work some boards, not sure about yours, I believe require you to install the drivers for the SATA controller chip. Usually located on you Motherboard CDRom, but might have to download and use a floppy to install. I have not had to install and SATA drive yet :(
 
Thank you. Strangely, it was the cord. I replaced the one that came with my drive with the one that came with my motherboard. After that there wasn't a problem
 
Was that drive SATAII?

I also have an IC7-G..and I was about to buy a hard drive..luckily remembered that IC7-G's were out long before SATA II...soo..hmm...

I guess a better question would be: is SATA II backwards compatible? Wasn't planning on a system upgrade till next summer..and I'm a little tight on space right now. =/

 
This is just a regular SATA drive. Wanted SATA II but I probably won't be able to upgrade my system for another 2 years. (in school, money tight) I think SATA II IS backwards compatable--though naturally, it won't operate like a SATA II Drive.
 
yeah it is..i was being stupid/lazy yesterday and didn't google it -_-
