I just got a WD 160 Sata II hdd and i was wondering if there was anything i need to download to make it Sata II and not Sata 150. Does it just work as Sata II?

Basically the drive and the controller need to be SATA2. If so, when you hook them up it's should be running in that mode.

ok thank you.
i read somewhere that people had to go to the manufacturer website and download som tool pack to make it sata2.

ok thats what i have been hearing alot of. So i should just go to western digitals website and look for this driver?

so how can you tell if it is running at SATA II speed (300) instead of SATA 1 (150)? My BIOS says my HDD is SATA II.

Check within the Device Manager - properties. Then perhaps benchmark it?

Download this: Silicon Image 3114 SATA RAID driver V1.1.9.9 for Windows XP(WHQL)/2K/2003.

you haven't install anything before have you, like the chipset inf driver, then lan driver, then video card driver, finally the ide driver! in that order.
