My operating system drive is a 320gb seagate 7200.10 sata II w/ oem sata cable. I just recently purchased an identical drive to backup on and I went ahead and got a new sata II cable. I moved some mp3s and movies across to the new drive and I decided to do some benchmarking to see if that cable made a difference. The second hard drive performed wayyy better than the op system hard drive. My question is: would this performance change be because the op system drive is almost full and it has an op system on it. Or is that cable actually doing better?

Thanks!

there's sata 2 cables? Thought it was all drive specific.

From what I've heard, all SATA 1 and 2 cables are exactly the same. The only differences you'll find are color, length, and connector design type.

there is no difference between sata 1 and 2 cables, the speed difference is probably caused by drive fragmentation.

Yep! You gotta pay a premium for a fast SATAII cable! :D

ThatDood, I'm lying Big Time! Don't spend your money anyplace that trys to sell you an "Upgraded SATA2 Cable"! If they're lying about that, they're probably not very trustworthy!

The cables are the same... as you have been told before many times.

SATA1 and SATA2 cables are the exact same thing.
