Does anyone know if I buy a SATA II drive if it will still work on a drive that only has SATA I? I just dont want to order it to find out that it will not work

I think you mean 'Will a SATA2 drive work on a SATA150 controller?' SATA2 is backwards compatible with SATA150, but will run at SATA150 specs.
The only exception I've experiece involves SATA2 drives not working with 8XXX series 3ware RAID cards. Seems they only want to work 100% with SATA150 drives and SATA2 drives will randomly fall off the array/not post on bootup.

Sorry OP, not to threadjack, but I saw no need in opening a new thread for the same (well, basically the same) question.
I just bought two SATA II Hitachi 160gb drives from the FS/FT Forum. The drives arrived great; however, I'm having trouble getting them up and running in my comp. My mobo doesn't support SATA II, but I knew that upfront, like I also knew that SATA II drives were backwards-compatible. But Windows refuses to recognize them, most likely because they're set to SATA II.
I tried burning a bootdisk with an image file called "ftool" (which allows you to disable SATA II and Speed Streaming something-or-other) that I DL'd from Hitachi's website, but every time I try to boot to CD-ROM drive with this disk, my computer completely locks up (says something about "Loading PC-DOS..." and then nothing). Anyone know of any other way/other utilities to enable these two outstanding drives (short of buying a PCI SATA II controller)?
And no, I'm not gonna demand a refund from the seller; I knew the situation going in, and now I'm just having some minor hiccups getting the drives going...I know I can get them to work, I just don't know how. The seller is one of the best I've ever dealt with, and this is not his fault.
