SATA/IDE help needed

Is there any way that I can run a ide hard drive with my o/s as my primary. Then run a sata drive as storage so that i can see it and access it with the ide hard drive?

Basically my uncles computer with a sata drive is having problems. From what i can tell the windows install is junked. I have a spare ide hard drive of my own. I want to throw windows on that and run the computer from it. Then still have the sata drive hooked up so i can pull all his data off and back it up before i wipe out the sata drive. Ive got it all set up like that now and i cant figure out how to get windows to access the sata drive.

Hope this makes sense, or maybe theres something stupid im missing to make this easier to back up his stuff.

Wait, what? Did you already install XP or are you going to?

In the BIOS, set it to boot off the IDE drive with XP installed. XP should be able to read the other drive (I believe it's as long as it has SP1 or 2 installed, don't remember) without any problems.

Thanks, thats the first thing that hit me when i woke up the next day, i cant believe i forgot to install those. I must have been staring at the screen too long that night. :eek:
