I had to do it twice to be sure I hadn't selected quick format :) Wowsers :D

Dano.

is it? no idea I just know that a full format in NTFS of a 40gig partition took about 2 seconds :)

the bizzare thing is that it only happens sometimes for me. had to reinstall windows twice recently, and the first time i got one of those 2 second formats, the second time it was more normal. both times the drive already had data on it.

Yes. It was so cool the first time i formated my sata drive...

if it takes 2 seconds for 40 gigs it's probably a quick format, i've formated my raptors twice as well as a 250 gig wd sata drive, teh raptors took about 30 minutes or so for a full format(74 gig) and the wd took close to an hour.

No, it wasn't a quick format, at least quick wasn't selected, the drive may be doing so of it's own accord but it was most definetely a full format that was selected.

Try to do a format via DOS to see if it is still fast. I don't really believe the 2-3 seconds unless it is a quick format.

Well, I am talking about a format during XP installation which is using DOS at that point right?
I'll try a proper DOS format sometime but right now I have data all over so no chance :)
