I apologize in advance if this has been beaten to death already:

Will a SATA HDD work any faster than an IDE HDD on my computer? I have a P4 478 socket board running PC3200 memory. My processor is a P4 rated at 3.0 ghz. I already have a 250gb IDE drive and I am trying to decide whether it's worth it to upgrade to a SATA drive. thank you for any help you can provide.

well i tried to flash the bios on my p5k mb with the asus flash utility and it killed my mb. so i had to send it out on rma and go back to my 939 system. with the p5k i was running 2 seagate sata 2 7200.10 in raid0. in the 939 system i have a 60gb ide drive in there. the difference in speed is night and day. i hate using the 939 system because the ide hdd is so slow. go sata and if you can get two if them go raid.

There would be a slight increase in speed, yes.

It is not MAJOR though, but noticeable (at least to me it was on my P4 system).

It would depend on what drive you are getting. I would guess your IDE drive is fairly old (a few years at least) and that you would be getting a newish SATA drive, one that came out in the last year. In that case the SATA drive would be faster (than your current drive) because it would have better technology like higher density platters in it. If you got a SATA drive that was the same age as the IDE drive, performance would probably be the same.

Can never have enough storage anyway. I'm at 2 TB and I demand more.

SATA is faster than regular IDE. Usually the performance difference is generally pretty small but if you run a JMicron controller for IDE drives on one of the modern motherboards, SATA performance will FAR eclipse that of regular IDE. The JMicron controllers just have pathetic performance.
