Sata Drives?

Im thinking on buying a Sata HDD for the new computer im building. I've never had any experience with SATA, just IDE and i was wondering what this motherboard supports:

-GIGABYTE GA-K8N Pro-SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

when i search on newegg for SATA type HDDs they give me options like

SATA 3.0gb
or
Serial ATA150

i dont know if my mobo supports this or what it means =P

ive wanted to use SATA for easier routing. Can someone help?

Sata 1.5gbps or 3.0gbps is really irrelevant to your type of setup. Both kinds are supported, backwards and forwards compatible, so that makes that easy, and the 3.0gbps drives aren't any faster inside, they just have a faster external interface. That won't make very much difference (if any at all) in real-world usage; you might see a few points in benchmarks here and there, but nothing earth-shattering.

Another question....ive heard people having a lot of trouble setting up SATA drives on mobos. Like hard to set up certain drives blah blah or something like that.I am really not familiar with the way SATA and the BIOS work together if someone could give me an explanation of the best way to set it up, that would be appreciated.

The problem is usually with installing Windows. The board will probably come with a floppy that you have to put in to have windows recognize the disk. Press f6, and all will be fine.

nah it doesnt. ive read the reviews.. thats the only thing people dont like about the board....no SATA drives...you gotta floppy them yourself.....but if i floppy them myself i should just follow your instructions?

haha sorry.... I wrote that out fast. What i meant to say is the motherboard does not come with drivers. People left reviews that there were no SATA drivers that come with the mobo. But they have the drivers on the company website. I guess i should get them there and put them onto a floppy disk and then install them when i install Winxp.

Exactly.
Just press F6 as the WinXP install starts up the follow the instructions.
Dont forget to download the drivers and put them on a floppy before you put the new setup together or you may have to borrow a freinds comp (like I did :D )
D.

Now, i havent read too much on SATA but are they mostly used for multiple HDDs? Is a standard IDE connection good to use? Im only going to have 1 HDD.

Sata is going to become the standard. Ide will work for any number of drives, as will sata, but sata cabling is easier to work with, and ide will eventually be phased out, so I'd suggest sata drives. For cd/dvd devices, stick with ide - the sata versions are really expensive, and some of them are bridged designs with ide drives inside.

Do i have to set up RAID if i only have one HDD...im not too familiar with RAID as you can see. Im pretty sure the answer is no though...

I've never worked with SATA and from the way it looks, this is going to be difficult..i think im just going to have a hard time setting up the BIOS to configure with the 1 sata drive. THere are 4 SATA connectors on my mobo and then the BIOS has a bunch of options. Ill post a pic and see if you can give any input.

^^^^^^Okay there we go....now there are the 4 SATA ports. S_ATA_0 thru S_ATA_4 ..... say i plugged my HDD in the S_ATA_0 port...how would i configure that menu?

^^^^^^^and then what would i do with this part of the BIOS?

Not an expert on SATA either, just installed my first SATA drive a couple weeks ago. But I THINK those BIOS features are for RAID only. I'm pretty sure all you need to do is install the drivers during the WinXP installation and that should suffice. Again, I'm not an expert so I could be wrong.
