I just got a new raptor and I want to clone my old 80gb ide drive to it. I am going to use western digitals software to do this. The only thing is when I go to My Computer the new sata hard drive isn't there. But there is a safely remove hardware icon in my system tray that shows the new hard drive. Do I have to install sata drivers to get windows to recognize the drive?

If you are cloning the drive, you shouldn't even be going into Windows at all. The software should be run from a bootable disc. Once the drive is cloned, you can reconfigure the BIOS to boot off of the SATA drive. Leave the Raptor unformatted...the cloning software should take care of that.
You don't want to clone a disc that's in use, which is why, logically, you'd do it in DOS.kdream3 said:

ok western digitals software doesn't do cloning. I believe it just copies files and folders from drive to drive. Would other hd company's software work, or does anyone have a good free program to clone? Under windows my old hd is 74.52gb and the raptor is 69.24 because I found HDclone but it only copies smaller to bigger hard drives i believe.

I kept getting errors when trying to clone using data lifeguard, so I tried acronis migrate easy 15 day trial and it worked. It was pretty easy, you start the program in windows, set the source and destination drives and reboot then the whole process is done in dos i guess. Then just reboot and ur done. Oh yea and no floppy is required.
