Isn't a SATA driver the same thing as a RAID driver?

Also, if the board supports booting from a USB device, can you install the driver from a USB memory stick when installing the OS?
 
It's not the same thing in function, it's the same thing in that both are a driver.

Nope.. windows only recognises a floppy drive for install during the install process
 
I have installed RAID drivers via a USB Floppy Drive before, but just wondered if a USB memory stick would work too...sounds like it wont =/


Also, the Intel website does not show a SATA driver...only a RAID driver (I am going to buy an Intel board soon). Does the SATA driver come from the HDD company? (ie Western Digital).
 
You only need a controller driver. Not sure about the usb memory stick Q. I would try to slipstream the drivers on to the installation CD.

My plan is to totally disable all IDE resources in the BIOS and just use SATA (SATA HDD and Optical Drive).

I will be using an Intel board (i975X chipset)
 
Assuming you're using this board which appears to use a silicon image controller, you want #9 here.

After you get the file extract it somewhere. Then during the slipstreaming process ("integrate drivers" iirc) point @ the .inf file.
 
Most intel chipsets only need drivers loaded during install if you want to use RAID, otherwise you should just be able to boot and install. AMD typically has chipsets that need standard drivers loaded.

Yes, that is the motherboard I am going to buy. There are two RAID chips on it. One is Intel, and the other is the one you pointed out.
