SATA Driver help.

I just recently purchased a Seagate 160gb Barracuda SATA hard-drive, and after placing the right SATA cables/power cables, I recieve the http://seagate.com/support/disc/images/sata_detect1_2.jpg image as I try to setup the hard drive. I've tried asking other friends, who told me to try other drivers from Intel/Msi (my mobo manufacturer) but alas, to no avail. My mobo is a MSI 865PE Neo2-S, http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=865PE_Neo2-S

Apparently people have been saying it's a driver issue, and that im not giving it the right Raid/Sata files needed for my mobo to recognize the HD. And just to clarify, this is off a fresh HD, only one HD, and booting it from the WinXP Pro setup to install windows xp.

All help will be greatly appreciated. =)

during the initial windows install process you need to have the driver floppy for the sata controller handy. you should see a message that says something like hit F6 to install a scsi or raid driver, do that, put in the floppy, and it will give you a list to choose from.

That's the problem, i don't have the driver floppy for the sata controller. My question is to previous installers is that is it from Intel (the mobo chipset) or MSI (the manufacturer) ?

So you need to make a floppy, Download the drivers from MSI's website, and put them on a floppy, in the root, not in a sub directory.

If you don't have a floppy drive, you can "slipstream" the drivers into a custom XP cd.

But first: The BIOS does see the Hard drive right?

Also, does your MB have a Promise controller too? The drivers page suggests it does, in which case, make sure you have the drive on the right ports.
