is it possible to use a pata/sata adapter on a pata connector on a motherboard to connect an sata drive to it?
i'm looking to get a new sata drive but not a sata controller card or motherboard for a few months.

if you mean getting a serial ata PCI card and using a IDE hard drive on it with the coverter then that shouldn't be a problem at all :)

no, i mean i have a motherboard with only pata connections (including pata raid) and i wish to use a new sata drive on it. to do this, i'm hoping to use an adapter normally used for old pata drives going into new sata motherboards only the other way around. i'd put the adapter straight into the motherboard pata (instead of a pata drive) and use an sata cable from that to the sata drive. i just want to know if this is possible and if anybody's done it.

i've looked at pictures of a couple adapters on newegg, and i definitely think they'll physically fit. my main concern now is whether or not the pata controller will see and use the drive fine. would someone please try this out for me or tell me if you've done it before? thanks.
