SATA Drive issue, help me?

i have an amd 3200+ (CPU), MSI K8TNEO (motherboard), an old 9600 PRO (GPU), Windows XP Pro (OS). All in a Lian Li Case.

There are 2 drives i would like to currently use on this comp (both SATA)

1 drive is 40 GB and the other is 160 GB.

As of right now only one works (the 40 GB) and it works just fine.

On the other hand the 160 GB SATA drive will just not work. I have tried many things and the comp will just not recognize it. There are four ports on my K8TNEO board. They are labled SER1, SER2, SATA1, and SATA2. I believe all wires are connected properly. Also, the 160 GB SATA HDD (ie the one that doesnt work) makes a clicking noise when the comp is turned on.

Any ideas? Any thoughts on what the problem is?

Have you installed the SATA drivers in windows?

Also, if you mean that the motherboard isnt recognizing it, have you turned on the SATA ports in the bios? I know that can be an option sometimes.

Does it show up in the BIOS? Or how about Device Manager?

If so, you need to partition it in Drive Management (under Computer Management)

Othewise it sounds like a dead drive.

1)I have installed the drivers that were on the cd that came with the mobo.

2)The drive does not show in the device manager.

3)It is possible i have not turned on the ports in the BIOS, tho i am not sure how to do this. I will go try it now.

Any suggestions on how to turn on the ports in the BIOS?

And...any ideas on what the clicking noise may signify?
