Hey,

I just reformatted earlier, and was wondering why in the world my Western Digital SATA Raptor is showing up as a removable disk in the tool bar at the bottom right.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Yep. Normal. But don't unplug your boot disk while it's on. If it bothers you, there's somewhere you can keep it from showing up; I forget exactly where, though, and none of my machines do that so I can't test.

at work, i disconnected a boot disk while in windows XP.. was cool, i would move around trying to open the startmenu.. nothign would happen, then i would plug the hard drive back in, and bingo, all works :p

You could also go to the Properties menu of the Taskbar and select "Hide Inactive Icons" if you don't use that option. This will then allow you to right-click the system tray and select Custom Notifications where you can then permanently enable or disable all the icons that reside there. If you don't select "Hide Inactive Icons" the Custom Notifications option will be grayed-out.

Nothing happens when you unplug your boot disk... you just plug it back in and continue working :) Probably not a safe method, but I've tried it, was more curious to see what happens.
