I'm looking for a PCI-e SATA controller since I ran out of SATA ports on my P6T. I run software JBOD, but have no interest in hardware RAID solutions. AHCI compatibility would be nice for hot swapping etc.

Can anyone recommend an 8-port controller (I'll probably fill out one HDD after another :p) especially if experienced on Windows 7, or any other long-term solution?

AOC-SAT2-MV8 has actual SATA ports. No need to get the SASLP and miniSAS cables.

I plan to get one when I get more drives for my WHS box.

I believe that version is PCI/PCI-X

OP is looking for PCI-E

Oh, whoops. But maybe the OP just put PCI-E out of habit, unless he/she doesn't have an open PCI-X slot.[/url]

Actually my P6T doesn't have PCI-X (unless it's got covered behind one of those GTX285's). I have one PCI-e x4 and one PCI slots left clear, so either of those would be fine, though obviously for 8 SATA ports the PCI probably wouldn't be ideal.

I think I'll go with this, thanks. Now the search begins for a place to fit the extra drives in the case :p. Is there a multiple 5.25" to multiple 3.5" bay converter or any other more space efficient solution than the single 5.25" to single 3.5" ones, which waste too much space?

There are quite a few different drive cages out there that you can use. All depends on what type of features you want.

They make 3in2, 4in3, 5in3 modules that will fit X amount of drives in Y amount of 5.25" bays. Parity linked a nice 5in3 set up. Those aren't cheap, but the nice thing is, the drive are removable from the front and does not require you to take your whole damn computer apart in case of a drive failure. The other main kind is something on the order of Coolermaster 4in3 drive cage. Only bad thing here, is if you have a drive fail, you have to pull the whole 4in3 module to get access to the failed drive(s).

Check out this Newegg link for some ideas to different drive enclosures/cages.

Perfect. I have 6 5.25" bays in my Cooler Master, all unused, so this way it sounds like I may actually be able to install 8 new 2TB drives and max the controller.
