I friggin' hate old computers! I installed a Creative I/O Sata raid controller with a VIA VT6421 chipset in a Windows 98 PII pooter! Not going well! I follwed the manual to the tee! It says at the end "RAID & Non RADI are using the same installation driver. The controller is designed as SATA NON RAID controller" However, after restarting, the VIA RAID utility program starts up trying to place my 80Gb SATA HD in an array! I don't want RAID!! Just SATA. I can't even access it in My Computer! I hope this post makes some sense, I'm frustrated and tired! Any ideas?

1) Stop using those colors. My poor eyes can't take it.
2) Don't install the VIA RAID utility. Uninstall it if nessecary.
3) I like the number three.
4) I'm not sure if Windows 98 has something equivilent to "Disk Management" or not... But if I recall correctly, it DOES have an excellent DOS prompt, from which, you should be able to fdisk the drive, format it, whatever it takes. Also, if I recall correctly, FAT16 had a 32GB limit, I think. If the drive is FAT32, and the Windows 98 box is running off FAT16 (AKA, upgraded from MSDOS 4.0 or something) that might be the issue. Uhm, uhm, uhm... Can't think of anything else. 48 hour sleep deficiat. Gotta love tech support!

1) Done
2) If I don't instal this, then nothing installs at all. None of the new stuff shows up in the device manager at all!
3) Hey, whatever floats your boat
4) Fdisk won't show the drive! Neither will any windows utilities like scandisk or FAT32 converter. I'll try to post some screenshots.

Forget about the SATA controller prob's, I just RMA'd the piece of crap! The place I ordered it from actually sent the wrong card. Same chipset, but the one I ordered was a Syba non-RAID card. Instead, I got a Creative I/O RAID enabled card. Just going to buy a PATA hard drive so I don't have to fool with all of this! Thanks for all you help though!

I still wouldn't mind finding out how to post pics off your PC on the forum, please!
