SATA cable, how long is too long?

Hello All,
I was just wondering how long is too long for a SATA 150 and SATA II cable? At what length does the signal start to degrade? I ask because I am looking at some 24-36inch cables for my 74gb Raptor and 250gb WD 3gb/s drives. I am looking at the longer cables to keep things nice looking the my case.

IIRC the spec says 1m. So approx 36"

The biggest cables I've seen is 36" After that you get potential data loss.
