SATA BIOS recognition?

I just put my computer together, and I have a 160GB SATA Seagate Hard Drive that isnt getting recognized in the BIOS. I cant really figure it out...is there something special that you have to do to get it to show up? Ive formated it, so it SHOULD be recognized, however now I dont see it show up at all.

Also, I only have 1 HD, so I dont want to use a RAID set up, because that would require more than one (correct me if Im wrong).

I was looking at this website http://www.tek-tips.com/gfaqs.cfm/lev2/67/lev3/70/pid/779/fid/4641 , and I thought that it was kinda in the ballpark, but then I think that you guys could help much more.

Thanks in advance, and this is the first time Ive built a computer, so yes...Ive got n00b written all over me.

The motherboard is an ABit NF7-S 2.0 I believe. The 2.0 part Im not exactly sure about, but I KNOW that I can run this off of just one hard drive, but I have no idea how to get it recognized.

see the thing is, is that this isnt an additional hard drive, its the only one that Ive got. All I wanna do is get it set up like a normal hard drive. What does that entail?

im having a very similar problem with installing a single SATA drive with a K8V SE Dlx.

i have tried hooking it up to both the promise and the Via controllers and installing the drivers when windows setup asks for them. the thing is that it doesnt recognize that the drivers are on the disk, i think.

the other thing is that i would like to hook the drive up to the Via controller, as it doesnt connect to the PCI bus (unlike the promise controller). but i am having a hard time finding a driver for just SATA (no RAID) for the Via controller.

any help would be most appreciated. thanks, in advance!

during the install if you watch at the bottom of the screen there will be a prompt that says,
Press F6 to install additional SCSI Drivers

do so, it will chug along for awhile and then prompt you for a floppy, at which point you would load the SATA drivers,

then In toga's case you need to set the boot order to SCSI in the BIOS, and you may also need to disable any onboard SATA port as well

thanks for the help, but it was actually something different. wanna guess? oh come on, take a guess! no, that's not it. ok, ok ill just tell you.

the floppy drive. you see, i have a lian-li pc-v1000 case (which is beautiful). lian-li includes a nice little 5.25"->3.5" aluminum adaptor so your floppy drive looks ok. well, my floppy drive was pushed too hard against said bezel. so, the eject button had continuous pressure on it, and it couldnt read the diskette. i just had to loosen the screws and slide it back a bit and everything worked fine. its annoying how something so small can frustrate me for so many hours, but i think that's often how it is.

thanks, and i hope others can read this and not do the same.

cheers,
toga

LOL thats a new one
which is saying something considering the traffic here ;)

Glad it Worked out :D

ok guys, so youre telling me that I gotta get a floppy drive? Thats not that big of a deal i suppose, as it would be nice to have one anyways. Or maybe I can just burn these drivers to CD. Would that work? Also, where do I pick these drivers up? I appologize for all the questioning, but again...this is my first time.

Thanks again for all the help!

well they generally come with the mobo,
but are available for download at the manufacturers website
you can slipstream the driver in with the OS install and service packs
but a FDD is far easier

ok, i have the bootable CD, its Windows 2000. Heres the deal though...
When it asks me to hit F6, I do so, and nothing happens. No big deal right? Well after that, it asks for the disk, and I put in the "SATA Driver Disk" (into my floppy drive), and I kid you not, it doesnt take. It actually asks for it again. This is insane...if I would have known I was gonna have this many issues with the thing, I would have gotten a regular crappy hard drive.

Any idea how to get me out of this pickle anyone? Ice?

EDIT: Like Im talkin', the EXACT files that I have to have on a floppy for this to take. This is seriously getting ridiculous.

sorry was offline for a few days

either, you have a FDD issue (in which case burning a floppy of some DOS program and running it would show that, memtest86+ being a good candidate

or its the wrong files or they are corrupted
see if there are different versions for different OSs, and or redownload them

it does take a bit for the install to "react" to the request
but it should "take" the floppy once it presented

unfortunately there is no way to "force" drivers in the install, unlike when your in the OS and Windows doesnt want to "eat" a driver
(In those cases, I remove the driver it perfers over the one Im trying to load
placing it on the desktop and then reload the new driver again, since its "lost" its perfered driver it takes it, then I put the other driver back where it was, but wiothout a GUI and the driver wizard to do that...)

well, the floppy drive I bought was broken. I put a new one in, and that fixed most of my issues. The rest...well the rest was crap I messed up trying to fix it earlier. The big thing to take away from all this though is that I SHOULD be fine (knock on wood). As I speak right now, im about done formatting the hard drive.

So until further posts...all things are well.
