SATA and SATA2 question

[rbarr110]

I currently have a Mboard and a SATA harddrive. I need to add som e storage and am seeing good deals on SATA2 drives.

Are the SATA2 drives compatible with SATA motherboards that do not specifically say SATA2 compatible? I would assume they are, but just run at SATA speeds.

Thanks

Correct.

Just an added bit of info, a SATA 2 drive on a SATA 2 connection doesn't run any faster than SATA speeds. The bus is capable of greater throughput but doesn't currently use it. Bottom line, at the current time SATA 2 is pure hype.
