see sig for current hardware. Heres the deal. i want to get 2 raptors and run them raid but currently i have only 1 open SATA connection left on my mobo. so if i buy 2 raptors i would have 3. i supposed i could run a SATA to IDE adapter for my 120GB drive but i would like to avoid that. what mobos (AMD) out right now have 3+ SATA connections. the more SATA connections the better. or is there someway i can do this with my current mobo?

edit: also are there better HD's out now as fast or faster and with more space than the raptors?

The fastest and best SATA drives are hands down the Raptors. They are even faster then some of the 10,000rpm SCSI drives. I would just get a SATA -> IDE connector for the 120GB drive. Theres no real world performance boost from running SATA over IDE currently. Definately not enough to warrant the purchase of a new motherboard.

ok i might just buy an adapter then and get a couple of raptors. is RAID 0 what i would want to go with?

raid 0 is just striping. Its not redundant - basically, you're raptors will show up as 1 drive with 2x the space of one raptor. Its what you want to increase speed.

so i wont lose space? i guess i thought when you striped them you lost a drives space due to the redundancy. but if i would have 60GB that would be great. i amhaving trouble finding a SATA to IDE adapter. i found a lot of IDE to SATA adapters tho. does anyone know of a good SATA to IDE adapter?

With raid 0 you will not lose space. All it does is combine the two drives into one large one so the software can read from both drives at once and therefore increase speed. (so with 2 raptors you get a drive the size of 2 raptors)

Raid 1 is redundancy, where you will have two mirrored drives, but you will only have the size of one drive. (so with 2 raptors you'd get a drive with the size of 1 raptor)

well this would almost work if i could find a SATA to IDE adapter. i dont know if they make them. i have found a few IDE to SATA adapters but i dont know if those would work. does anyone actually have a SATA to IDE adapter?
