I'm a noob when it comes to drive storage. I just recently purchased a 250gb SATA drive. I already have a 120gb IDE drive installed. I'm having difficulty installing the SATA drive (computer not recognizing it). I was wondering if there is or could be a problem between the two drives?

Is it possible to have both an IDE and SATA drive running? I know it's not a RAID setup, but I needed the extra storage.

Also I was wondering if I need to install a jumper onto it?

Thanks again for all of those helping out a poor drive noob like me :)
 
Of course both drives can work at the same time. SATA doesn't need jumpers or anything. Just plug the SATA cord in, and be sure that the power is plugged in as well (use the SATA power plug if it's possible, no molex). Also, be sure that the SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS and that the driver is installed in Windows for it as well, if it's necessary. Any more information shared about your problem would likely help us further!
 
Go to Control Panel > Adminstrative Tools > Computer Management.

Then select Storage > Disk Management

You should see the unpartitioned drive. Right click the drive and format.

If you don't see the HD, then check your BIOS to see if SATA is activated.
