Just wondering what the main difference between SATA and SATA 2 was. Would a SATA 2 drive be compatible with my Nforce3 board?
 
Sata 2 doesn't really mean anything; it's a bunch of optional things that drives and controllers may or may not implement. However, it usually means that the item in question supports 300 MB/s transfer rates. Your board won't take advantage of the extra speed, but a "sata 2" drive will still work with the controller onboard, albeit at (still faster than the drive) 150 MB/s speeds.
