SAS pci-e adapters

I'm starting to gather information for my next system, and am wondering if anyone in the audience has any experience with SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) technology. In particular, I'm looking for a PCI-Express based adapter that'll fit in the Intel D955XBK board, or any board with an extra PCI-Express slot.

The two adapters I've found are these:

- LSI MegaRAID SAS 8408E (http://www.lsilogic.com/products/megaraid_sas/megaraid_sas_8408e.html)

- Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI RAID 4805SAS (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/pr...hnology/Serial+Attached+SCSI/RAID+Controllers)

The only issue I have with them is the fact that they're smaller than a x16 lane slot, and if that would cause a problem with the Intel board specified above. I plan on running two 15K 73GB drives RAIDed together.

Neither of those adapters will push more data than the bus can handle if you are only using 2 drives.
 
It's my understanding that with PCI-E as long as it will fit you should be able to use it in the slot. I believe the slots are "backwards" with lower lane count pci-e cards so it shouldn't be an issue. I may be wrong, someone correct me if I am.
 
Those cards will work fine with that Intel motherboard in the PCIE X16 slots.
