SAS ports / card.
It appears some cards will not run on the motherboard. I bought a HP Smart Array E200 SAS 8 Port Controller 64MB. Now I find out it will only work on a HP Proliant.
I have a smart array 200 card (I do not recall now if the designation is P or E) i have gotten to work on boards from tyan and supermicro, if i recall correctly i managed to get it working in a socket 939 gigabyte board using the pin-tape mod as well. i never actually used the card, just tested it. the smart array cards are not supported in anything other than HP servers, but that does not necessarily mean you cannot get them to work. That being said, it may never actually work on your specific board, try the pin-tape mod and see where that gets you. (i am making the assumption that this is a PCIe card)

look at the section labeled "SMBus Issue with Intel Chipsets" just use a tiny strip of electrical (or even masking) tape to cover the two pins on the card and see if it boots up, i modded an SAS5/i to permanently disable those two pins for use in a consumer grade board. If this works out and you want to permanently mod the card, use a very sharp blade (xacto or similar) to cut the two traces to those pins right where the traces join the pins.
