SAS Drive Noise

I just recently setup a SAS for storage and noticed the drives are unusually loud. I have had a scsi setup before and am used to the clicking and buzzing those make but these are louder is that normal or should I be concerned?

Can't say I've ever given one a listen in an isolated area. I can say that all of my data centers are loud as hell, and there are hundreds of SAS drives contributing to that noise.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with a higher than average buzzing noise from the spinning, are they 2.5 or 3.5?

Ok, I just went into our local DC and I didn't notice much difference when sticking my ear up to SAS vs SATA in either 2.5 or 3.5 sizes. That's 7200RPM vs 15K drives.

Some 15k SCSI drives are loud, most are only really noticeable during activity (seeking). I have 2 15k SCSI drives in my workstation, along with a few SATA drives and the SCSI drives are about as noisy as the Caviar Black, it's a different noise though, more abrupt and mean sounding.

Make sure you give them cooling also, they make quite alot of heat.
