Lets say I have this setup

4u supermicro server w/ sas6 controller and unknown backplane. 12gb sas 10tb drive

The 12gb sas drive will not register in the computer.

Is this an issue with the backplane being older or the sas controller being older or both?

I know nothing about sas backplanes.

Do you know if it is even a SAS2 backplane? Does any other >2TB drive work in the same slot? Which specific chassis, controller and drive are you trying?

Its an LSI 9271-4i

Backplane unknown.

It does work with 4x 8TB SAS3 and 6x 6TB SAS3 drives but at SAS2 speeds though.

I only have the one 12TB drive though as a test to see if it will work. Possibly bad drive?
