i have a sapphire x800pro toxic that throws white garbage all over the screen. it has never worked correctly, so i think, "hmm i really should RMA this to sapphire...". so i got to sapphires website, and low and behold, in order to RMA you have to go through a different company, Althon Micro.
apparently sapphire doesnt even have a US division (they are in hong kong), this Althon company is their US middle-man. so i call em up for an RMA and some asian guy who can barely speak english tells me that they dont have ANY x800 cards in stock, and that it could me months before i get a replacement... and considering the fact that the toxic version is even harder to come by, i would probably never get another one. so i ask if i can send it in and just wait until another one comes in... no. i hang up, pissed.
so i email their tech support, and this guy is far more receptive and sends me an RMA request form and tells me that they'll call me with an RMA #. guess who calls me? the asian fucker who i spoke to earlier. he gives me the exact same speech again, except this time he tells me that they only provide RMA for cards that are more than one year old. i told him that the card just recently hit the market, and he tells me that the best thing i can do is just wait. i try to tell him that i have a broken $500 video card, and he basically says "sorry, nothing i can do."
so im just supposed to sit on this card for a year before they will honor the fucking warranty. sapphire is bullshit, and i will never buy anything made by them ever again. im going to try to call ATI, and see if maybe they would be willing to correct the damage... but i think that there is almost no hope of that. anyway, i hope that you have better luck than me...
Basically, the guy who barely spoke english told me to RMA the card through my retailer. So I am doing that instead of through Althon Micro. Althon Micro REALLY doesn't like dealing with endusers.
I will never buy a Sapphire card again because of this US middleman.
My retailer (xpcgear.com) told me that it could take up to 8 weeks. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with my old card.
