Sapphire 7970 Squealing

I've recently noticed my 7970 make much more noise than usual. I've gotten some coil/cap whine in the past, but this is far worse. When I switch to certain webpages, I get 1-3s of squealing that slows my computer down immensely. I can see the current spike with GPU-Z. It's not going particularly high, but the spike is there. During normal operation (P95, Gaming, etc), there is no squeal. It only happens when going from one state to another.

Anyone else have this problem?
 
What are your gpu clock speeds while browsing? Have you tried disabling HW acceleration in flash?
 
My daughter's mice squeak if they get hungry. Have you tried putting cheese or crushed oreos into the fan intake?

It may actually be the page using some GPU accel (Flash, etc), and fan speed ramping up. If so, then dust may be the culprit. That, or slight looseness/misalignment of the fan and housing that only shows up under the initial load of fan speed increase. Once the fan has reached target speed, the movement is stable.

I prefer the mice version, myself.

Not the same card, but my 8800GT used to squeal when running benches.

I simply ran tests with case open putting finger on components.

It turned out to be the Piezo Alarm Buzzer on the card, meant to warn you if you didn't connect the power connectors properly.

It wasn't on purpose. But high load was causing interference on power supply on the card, which was making a squeal in the piezo buzzer.

I just stuffed foam in the Buzzer opening to make it more quiet.

It's been connected like this for a year without issue.

I've confirmed it's not the fan. I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on. I notice it the most when I visit a site like this with the game running on another monitor.
