I bought my new gaming rig in July specs are below, the system is running on air and default settings. No Overclocking.

I downloaded the new drivers 9.11 and still happened to notice that my video card was running very hot at 74 Degrees on idle, I have auto settings on since July.

So I went in to play some games that I normally do NBA 2k10, Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern War Fare #2 and #1 they all crashed to my desktop which never happened before. So I cleaned my system of any dust still get the same problems.

Has anyone encountered these problems with the new drivers or is it my card that's the problem?

Windows XP 32 Bit
Antec 1200 Case
Intel Core i7 950
ATI RADEON 4870x2
Asus Rampage Extreme
Antec Quattro 850 Watts
OCZ 12GB Platnium Triple Channel
2x 500 WD 32MB Hard Drives 7200 RPM

Mine is running at 72 degrees as I type. Try setting the fan control to manual and bump it up to say 45% and see if it still does it.

Mine has always idled that high a temp.
