Okay, I just got the damn thing today and an Accelero S1 cooler. Do all the necessary preparations and put it all together. I even superglue (little bit) the heatsinks so that they will stick to the damn memory cores. After that I let it set and they fire up Crysis and I was blown away at the performance boost. But after playing through the first level it donned on me, "Should I be getting more FPS than this?" Open the console and type in "r_displayinfo 1" and the max FPS that I ever got was 25. 25?! I should be getting more than that at 1024x768 @ High settings. Is this normal because the gameplay has been feeling very jumpy and it hitches and stutters alot. Also, all my other games run fine, HL2, COH, but Crysis goes nuts including TR:A. Is it because these are "Nvidia; The way its meant to be played" BS or what. I am at my wits end and I just got onto a fresh install of Vista Ultimate x64.

Going to try to post some 3Dmark tests soon. This performance does not add up, a 7900GS can get better frames than me!

What's your in game settings?

Oh, and super glue on a heatsink.. um.. probably a no-no.

Sir, putting a new heatsink/fan on isn't going to change your card's speeds.

Actually I have already tried it on mine and they came off without a hitch, provided that I let the damn thing heatup a bit. ;)

Edit: Settings in first post; All high @ 1024x768

Okay here is the 3Dmark benchmark, I will try to get a normal Crysis benchy.

Yeah, that's wrong.. I play crysis on high settings 1280x1024 on my 3850 with definitely more than 25 fps

what proc do you have? i just got a gigabyte 3850 512 and with my c2d at 3.2ghz im getting 9700 3dmarks.

What are the rest of your system specs?

Brisbane 4400+ OC'd to 2.8Ghz, 2GB Crucial Ballistix @ 933MHz CL:5, 500GB WDC HDD, 550watt Thermaltake Purepower (And before anyone says anything I had an 2900Pro in here and it ran fine), Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H matx mobo.

Yes I checked all temps to make sure that nothing was overheating.

I am currently doing a refunds with Newegg and I cannot decide whether I should get a replacement RMA or get a Visiontek 3870.

So is everyone else getting more FPS than me in the game?

Also I have initiated an RMA with newegg for replacement card.

I have the Sapphire 3850 512 and get between 25 and 50 fps at 16x10. All settings at medium. Even in the most intense firefights at close range I have never seen it go below 25. Most of the time it's in the upper 30's lower 40's. I dont know how to find out the average.

I really hope that this is just a bad card and nothing else.

Also could someone with a Sapphire 3850 (256 or 512MB) take a screenshot of the village at 1024x768 @ High and have FRAPS running?

I'm getting the same score with my Sapphire 3850/512 on stock settings. Got it to go to 8950 with card OCed to 730/1000. Running on E6750 @ 3.5ghz on ASUS P5E.

What Catalyst version are you running on this? I'm on 7.12, thinking I should try 7.11 that came with card.

Nevermind. I just set all settings in Catalyst to "application controlled" and now scoring 10890. I'm happy.

Turns out it was a bad card, I got a new one and I am playing Crysis very nicely on "mock" Very High Settings in DX9. DX10 is okay but no difference to me. I'm going to install my accelero S1 cooler tomorrow.

Okay, thats it! One card is enought but two! I'm gonna get a 8800gt from BestBuy and return this piece of shit! Does anybody know of a B/M store that has an 8800gt at a lower price than $280 or a coupon that can be used?

My feeling throughout this thread is that there is nothing wrong with the card but you havent set it up right.
Why did you fit an Accelero S1?

So I can get it to run cooler, have you seen comparisons on 8800gt's w/the stock fan and w/an Accelero S1. Besides it's also silent. I have flashed the BIOS on it, changed the DIP switch settings to see if a memory address was incorrect. Nope by all accounts the software states that the damn card is absolutely fine. I even pleaded a friend of mine to borrow his 8800gt and that thing was working beautifuly. Even the GPU-Z shows that the PCI-E connection speeds are at 16x, so thats normal too!

On a side not does anybody know of a coupon that I could use that would give me even 10% off the stuff @ BestBuy?

You should check some reviews if you want to see how your card will perform, it is running fine.
If you want more power you either need to overclock or get a faster card.

A benchmark for you.

I have an S1 on my 8800GT and it allows you to get a wonderful overclock and still have very low temps.

Does the term choppy mean anything? If I try to zoom in with binoculars in Crysis I literally have to wait 10 seconds for my card to "render" the area. I even have a 8500gt and tested that little guy out and even that guy has no lag even though it can barely get 15FPS on medium settings. That is not right.

Your performance is good but there will be times when things get choppy if you only get 25fps average on the benchmark.
Try a fresh install of windows on a spare drive to see if you have a windows/driver installation issue.

On my 8800GT, when I goto higher res than 1360x768, zooming in also stutters a bit sometimes.

I do not mean the occasional stutter or something like that I mean I have serious lag on it and I cannot play the game that way at all and it does this all the time.

If you think nVidia hardware and drivers are magical you ought to spend more time @ NvNews or the official Evga forums.

No need to be rude, you have to get the hardware that works for you. My 3850 did not work and I got a 8800gt instead. In the business world getting one bad product is unacceptable but two is enough to lose a customer indefinitely.

BTW what is this? A shooting war against me. The only reason why I was rude is because I was exhausted and tired of trying to find out what the hell was wrong.

Thanks for the help peeps.
