Saphire X800 Pro overheating!

I was playing CS:S yesterday and my graphics started to artifact. So I Alt+Tab out and look and see what the temp for my card is and it is 70 Degrees Celcius. Now I am no rocket scientist, but that is hot. I have left this card stock since I bought it in August. I have removed the left side of my case to see if that would help, but it does't. I have also cleaned the entire case of dust with 2 cans of air. HELP!!!
 
70 is pretty good for that card, they normally run about 75 C. You may have something else going on. Try using ATI tool to increase your fan speed to see if that changes anything. If it doesn't something else besides heat is going on.
 
70C isn't hot for a modern video card. 90C is usually the point where you need to start worrying.
 
Is there a chart or something I can look at?


BTW what tool can I increase the fan speed with?
 
Or can you reccomend a GPU cooler that I can replace the stock one so I can feel better about leaving it on at night.

No chart that I know of. Here are some stats from this forum.

Well it looks like you don't have decent VideoRAM cooling, also what are you case temps?

ditto. As soon I replaced from stock, idle temps dropped from 39c to 30c and load from 60c to 50c.

Also, my sys temps dropped 5c and cpu dropped 3c. :D
 
I didn't check my temps before changing the cooler on my x800pro, but even at full load, I haven't seen over 62c using ATI Tools. My card idles at 34c. Cooler is a Zalman HP80C

ATI Silencer 4, works great for me. 36c~59c. Better overclocking as well.

Yeah i got it for my ati x800 pe
im at 590/600

Way cooler on the card , full load is like 55-60c

idle is alot lower and the fan is alot quieter
good 23 dollar investment
 
Just bought the Ati Silencer 4. How hard is this thing to put on?


Are there any more detailed instructions? I feel uncomfortable screwing with a $400 video card :p
 
70C, I would be going nuts if my gpu would hit that temp. My always runs on 46C idle, and 53C under fullload, stock on 2600rpm. And it's a 6800GT.

This means you can run 3DMark05 for an hour, then remove the cooler quickly, and stick your finger to the core without saying "ouch". Believe me, I wouldn't do that, you'll hear "tsssssssssss" :D

I've read various threats on the net where people reporting 6800GT full loads temps about 70-85C, i think your temp is a little bit optimistic. ;) I think your sensor reads the ambient temp around the core, not the core temp itself.

Btw, i think this also for X800users reporting 50C full load on their cards. These temps are not realistic for a GPU core, i suspect you guys are reading the core ambient temp., not the core itself. (you can switch between these two with Ati tool)
 
LoL, I dont think so. The back fans that blow air out doesnt blow warm air at all when benching or playing games. Even rams are not hot. Exhaust on the gpu is blowing out WARM air, not hot.
 
A hair blower blows out nice warm air, but i wouldn't touch the inside if i were you. :)
