This thing is BADASS AND PWNSZERS the ipod. FM radio, Video playback, FM recorder, Voice Recorder, Expandable micro SD card, and Replaceable batter. Retail is ~$200 for a 4gb, when on sale you can get them for 120 or so. Menu style reminds me of XP Media Center. The size is about the same as the Ipod nano, a little thicker though. Button layout is pretty simple and friendly. What do you guys think about it? Who has one?

Its an iPod Nano killer, thats for sure. With this thing around, Apple is going to have to enable video on the nano to keep it competative.

I've been thinking about getting one but I'm waiting for the psuedo-announced 8GB one that's coming down the pipe. Unfortunately there's no news yet on when this is supposed to come out. In addition to being 8GB, there's also rumors of having the ablity to customize your EQ instead of using presets. I hope it's true.

I sister has one. It's pretty cool. IMO, it doesn't take much to "kill" an iPod. I hate em. The sansa my sister has though, is having problems playing some stuff we put on it. It is only playing one song that i ripped off an entire album. Probably something on my end, but frustrating none the less. The buttons are hard to push too. They're really short and close to the wheel thing which is elevated so it's hard to push them in. Other than that, it works well and the screen is wonderful.

Been looking at it, and probably ready to pounce. I'm not a fan of the Apple file format because it's just a PITA for Windows users with many GB of older MP3 format archives. My Creative Zen is beginning to show it's age, with stuff like this out.

I like the irony of saying you hate iPods... and promptly complain about the Sansa. :p

The Sansa will probably get a decent following, but I don't see it killing the iPod. Having video playback for its own sake doesn't mean you "win." Isn't the Sansa limited to a 15 FPS frame rate with video? If you're going to have video, do it right.

I don't know... I would wait for the supposably iPod refreshses next month.

Other than iPod, I am really digging that new Toshiba Gigabeat or whatever. The interface on it looks really nice, which is more similar to Windows Media Center than the Sansa. Maybe its because Microsoft design the interface? :)

edit: Video of Gigabeat interface http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3428996358728158914&q=toshiba+gigabeat

cool...

and did i see 20 dollar sack pyramid on there... damn that's old school

what kind of video formats does it play? that would be my primary use.

You didn't even mention the best part, that being ur comp just sees it as a hard drvive, no stupid proprietary software to install to make it work or third party software you have to buy to make it work well. I have the e140, I love it, though I wish it were color, it does use full size sd cards which is great since I didn't have to rebuy a bunch of cards.

rockbox brothers rockbox. that is all you need on your ipod to do it all. now I love my nano.

games, EQ, all formats, XP sees it as an external HD.

First just because it has an added feature that the ipod doesn't will not mean its an ipod killer. every now and then there will be a " something killer" thats coming out, but turn out not to be the case. dont get me wrong, i'm not an apple fan boy, I have a 4th gen regular ipod that haven't used in months. people like the ipod because of the style, ease of use and user friendliness and the name behind it. it already lacks certain features that other brands have but it still reins supreme. its not always the features that make a product king of the hill.

Who still listens to FM (and all those stupid commercials)?! I can't see how that is a selling point for a digital device. The whole point is to be able to listen to your own music! Man, I went into the wrong profession...marketing is where its at!!

This looks pretty decent, and I like it for the fact that it isn't a iPod in which everyone has with those stupid default earphones. :D

Yeah I see why this thing is not really an ipod killer. Im jealous there isnt rockbox for it yet, but crossing my fingers that they do develop it. I got mine today and was kinda upset at the fact that it doesnt explain anything about the playlist so Im on the hunt for information. I will mainly use this for music in the car. The video and photo is just something to show off I guess, wasnt a real strong point for me. I got my e270 to 157 after rebates which is pretty good seeing as the nano goes for 200 for a 2gb. So far I love the layout and menu, I havent had a whole day to use the thing but tomorrow is just around the corner. Im happy with my purchase.

I think it's a great feature. NPR anytime I want, Kick ass

I heard that video is limited to 10-15 minute clips. I was considering buying one when they were ~$120 a few weeks ago, but decided not to because the video was one of the cool selling points for me, but kind of useless with that limitation.

Ugh, 4gb is just NOT ENOUGH SPACE. What the market needs is an affordable 20-30gb model, with a nice sized screen, for a good price. I can guarentee some would sacrifice FM radio, and all those sound formats to just be able to play DIVX on a nice 3" widescreen display for under 500$

Show me an affordable 20-30gb flash based player :p They don't even exist!

I am thinking of placing a order now, and getting some audio technica earphones.

sure it is. most people dont need to carry a ton of movies at once. 4 gig is more than enough.

I disagree. I have a 60gb 4th gen ipod and I would not want to go lower than 10gigs, 20-30 is the sweet spot (I got mine on discount when the ipod videos came out :p).

I meant a HD player. 30gb of flash memory is probably LARGER than the small .85" HD's they use in the flash based devices :p.

4gb is not enough for movies. It might be for you, but it isn't for me. For example, if you wanted to take say, 2 full seasons of any tv show (Your choice, that's 24 episodes) at 200mb an episode. You could compress that to about 100mb an episode (letterbox, not widescreen) under DIVX using acceptable settings. On video that small the higher audio quality you can muster, the better your viewing experience will be, because on that small screen... well yeah. That's 2.4gb for 2 seasons of TV. The only anime I like is 26 episodes with 2 movies, as the owners of MANY of these devices like anime (ahem the more tech-lucky asian quadrant) you could barely fit 2 different shows (assuming they're both 24 episodes... I know very little about that sort of stuff) and still have any room for music.

8gb is getting somewhere, but once again I'd guess an 8gb player would cost about as much as a video ipod, so in essence you're losing 22gb. Yes, Flash based players are GREAT for those that run, or need something compact and lightweight, but for movie watching, I stand by my original statement.

Point well taken. However, I wouldn't want to play videos on that small device ;)

i had one, (notice the word had) it sucks, there are a lot of bugs, like the blacklight is always on when the thing is charging, you cant listen to music while it is charging, the wheel sometimes double scrolls
one good thing is the liquidmetal back, i tried to scratch it and was unsuccessful :p
the screen is nice and the movie thing isnt too horrible, as you can just create a playlist and the movies will play with like a 2 second pause between it, however, the firmware is ridden with bugs and i'll be waiting for the microsoft mp3 player.
