This is what I'm at so far. For system details, please see my siggy. What do you think? Does this qualify as "Hard?"

2.8Ghz on a 90nm part that was binned as a higher-end chip?
That's a realistic overclock, but I don't think it's necessarily special

Please note: I have stock cooling on the chipset and graphics cards. CPU is also air-cooled, although definitely a pretty decent cooler. How far should I be able to get, roughly? Yes, I know all chips are different, but what would you consider a [H]ard overclock to be for this rig?

2.9-3+ is what I consider [H]ard for A64, expecially if it's stable!

seems to be runnin pretty hot though...i have stock coolin on my gpu and chipset and am runnin 1.55v too and i idle at 32 deg. although i havent tried too hrad to get past the 2.75ghz right now

Those temps are 4 degrees above stock clock both idle and full load. The idle temp is also 4 degrees above ambient temp in my case. I don't have great airflow in my rig right now, obviously. Gotta do a little clean-up in there. Swapping out my 300GB IDE for SATA would help a lot with cable clutter...or at least with cable size on that clutter. ;)

Also, here is my new, much [H]arder, OC. Still stability testing, but it's been running here stable for nearly 2 hours as I write this. Check the sig for new details.

Not bad, I'm aiming for 3ghz. I have yet to get to 2.8ghz stable. I think my memory is holding me back. I got a lot of tweaking to do.

System failed stability testing overnight. I'm now testing at 2.877GHz (261.6*11). Hopefully I'll be able to run this, as I don't really wanna drop too much more clock speed. :p

I agree...this is a decent OC for a 3700+ Sandy...but nothing completely over the top. I'm not trying to shoot down the accomplishment, but far better has been done. Nice OC on air none-the-less...keep going bro.

Maybe I missed it, but what vcore were you running for that clock? Just wondering 'cus my old 3000+ Venice did 2.96Ghz with the stock air cooler at 1.6v and could at least do some SuperPi 1M runs.

Now THAT was [H]ard!!!

nice job man .. way better than my rig for sure

what's really hard to me is the opty 144 week 47s that can do 3+ghz on stock volts and air cooling ..

Frustrating eh?

Sucks when that happens...but so is life. :p

Well, I hit the wall (at least, I think I did). 2.877GHz (261.6*11) at 1.55 VCore, 3-3-3-8 2T at 1:1 (DDR ~524) at 3.0 VDimm. CPU Max Temp hasn't budged from 51C, and actually runs 50C if it's not super hot in my room. I want to go further, but am about to leave town on business. More exact system specs are in my rig.

I'd love to push this thing further, but honestly, I'm at a loss of where to go from here. I've maxed my VCore and VDimm, and was unable to get stable at any higher clock speeds than what I'm running here...not sure what's holding me back. Looser RAM timings lessened stability (as measured in Prime95 time to crash), RAM divider lessened stability, so I think that's it.

If I've overlooked anything, please let me know. Like I said in the OP, I'm not exactly the most experienced OCer around, and I would love to see that 3700 hit 2.9 or 3GHz on air.

If not, maybe it's time to look into more, uhh, [H]ard cooling solutions.

Better cooling could help...but if you're starting to hit a wall so to speak already I wouldn't get your hopes up to high that you'll hit 3GHz on air. 2.9 should be doable...but tough to say where/how exactly.

Looks good, much better than the stock frequency.

Heh, yep...this's typically what the response would be once something is OC'd any great deal. I've seen better out of these things, but that's not always relevant...it's still a nice accomplishment...it'd be a nice chip to have.

Pfsh, that's not hard. 3.2GHz SuperPI 1M runs with less than 1.6v, 2x the cache, no IHS, and 25s results are [H]ard.

True...it is...but what chip are/were you working with? my 3000+ Venice didn't have AS good of an overclocking outlook as most newer Opty's do. Regardless...both were nice CPU's, and I congradulate you on your accomplishment.
