Just picked up the transform today. So far I'm not that impressed. It's supposed to be a cheaper Epic without the 4g support. But from what I'm seeing after having it in my hands is a lot less. Does not support live wallpapers, Wifi is sketchy, it's kind of jittery in the interface department.

AND to top it off I can not get it connect to any of my PC's. Tried my XP netbook, Vista MC and 3 different Win7 rigs. All show as an unknown device. WTF kinda bullcrap is that to release a phone that doesn't work with any PC? I'ce downloaded the drivers from Samsung's website but they didn't do shit.

Anyone know how I can link this thing to my PC?

I really don't think its supposed to be an epic without 4g. its more of a budget phone that shares some styling with the epic.

try a different usb cable for pc connectivity. when shit keeps coming up unknown device on multiple pcs that can often mean a hardware problem.

to get usb to work, if this is your first android phone its a bit different. you need to mount the SD card to get it to show. you dont need drivers to make it work. simply connect your phone to your PC, pull down your notification bar from the top and click mount SD card. it will show up after that. you cant use your phone when the SD is mounted to your PC. to unmount, its the same thing, pull down the notification bar from the top and click unmount. took me a while to figure this out on my first android phone too

That's the thing this doesn't happen when your PC doesn't recognize the device. I get no option to mount the SD card. Oddly, it now works on my XP netbook, but none of my other machines will see it properly.

I've read on androidcentral that a lot of people are having this same problem with the Transform. On Samsung's forum it's the same thing, with no response from Samsung either.

I'll be taking this phone back this weekend.

Did you try another cable? Huge batches of shit USB cables can get shipped out with a lot of USB devices and cause this.

Pretty lame that Samsung has no feedback on this. I guess you need to buy a Galaxy S for them to care.

I had to download drivers for my Captivate to be seen on any PC as well. Go to XDA Developers and they will have links in the Samsung Forums that should work for your phone.

But.. you do have a budget phone.. if your unhappy with it return it quick.

The Epic will be in my hands this weekend. :)

The Epic is pretty damn amazing. Look for the 2.2 upgrade in about 2.5-3 weeks.

AVOID THE SAMSUNG TRANSFORM AT ALL COSTS!!!!

I purchased the Samsung Moment last November. Discovered soon after that the hardware is defective and neither Samsung nor Sprint care at all. The data modem in the device locks up after WiFi is toggled or after watching Youtube, it's quite pathetic. The Transform supposedly does not suffer from this modem problem but the software and hardware are completely half-baked. Avoid at all costs. I might recommend the EVO just to avoid Samsung but I've also heard good things about the Epic so I dunno.

The moment and transform are completely different models, and from personal experience the Transform doesn't have the issues the Moment has.

As for the Epic, I've had mine since 8/10, and while I ran into the capacitive button issue, I had it swapped out and all is well.

My issues with the Epic were even worse...
Poor capacitive buttons, faulty GPS, bad battery (2-3hours of moderate use), no coverage where I was supposed to, and some noticeable lock-screen lag. Had to take it into the local Sprint store to fix OS issues twice, and at the end I had a full-blown software crash.

Not a fun experience.

IMO all phones have their issues. I went through 3 blackberry 8330's before I got a good one, but the track ball died every 3-4 months anyways. A friend has had his Evo replaced twice due to completely dieing.

To be honest, I haven't really had any major problems with the Transform other than not being able to connect to my PC. And now that seems to be working, sporadically though. Touch screen is perfect, GPS works fine (no better or worse than my old 8330), battery life is meh but I drive a lot and leave it on the car charger so who cares. The camera is a bit lacking I think my BB took better pics with 2mp cam than this does with a 3.2. I've had no problems with data at all. In fact I get better reception and rates than I did with my 8330.

They all have their quirks. I don't think any phone is perfect.

Now that I have the Epic in hand I can see what all the fuss is about. LOL This thing kicks ass! :)
