Reuters, citing unnamed sources, says that Samsung will reveal the results of its Galaxy Note 7 probe later this month. It will be interesting to see what was causing all those phones to spontaneously combust.

The South Korean firm said in October it was examining all aspects of the phone, suggesting there may be a combination of factors that contributed to one of the costliest product safety failures in tech history. The world's top smartphone maker warned of a $5.1 billion hit to its operating profit over three quarters following its decision to permanently halt Galaxy Note 7 sales in October.

We shoved a probe into the battery.

It exploded.

One table was scarred, one technician was singed, and one battery was completely hooped.

One of the other technicians asked for a bigger probe and some privacy.

It's taking them a suspiciously long time to release this information... They would have known within a few days of receiving the 2nd or 3rd unit for inspection.

We are talking about a device that historically has only sold around ~20M at best for a generation, but Samsung with their inflated ego decided QC and design flaws is an acceptable tradeoff to beat a lackluster iPhone 7 on release date. it's just funny and sad at the time.
