I have an opportunity to pick up a slightly used 171MP for about $250.

Is this reasonable, is the LCD worth it?

Well I think this is not a good option for me. I tried it out during my lunch break and it looked great for general use (i.e. desktop, word, etc.). However it is too slow processing objects in games. The edges of buildings were extra jagged and ghosted a bit (trailed behind).

Definately not great in games. If you only game a little it would probably suffice, but not if you play more than 2 hours a week.
 
I have one and I love it, however I use it as my second monitor, so I don't see games on it. It does work great for video though. The tv function is great, and the colour is excellent. Can't vouch for games though. But if someone is looking for a great mutlipurpose monitor with multimedia functions, go for it, it's very nice.
