I don't know what's going on but my Samsung s27a950 can do 2560x1440p @ 60hz flawlessly is this normal ? this model goes up to 1920x1080p @ 120hz
test it with benchmarks & games no problem at all
What's the catch?
 
no my friend. the size of the images and the size of the icons the size of the letters is getting smaller also the fps displayed in games and benchmarks is lower !
 
Yes because your GPU is processing and sending out 2560x1440. But your monitor is downsampling to 1080p. It is physically impossible for it to display actual 2560x1440, it's still only got 1920x1080 pixels.
 
ok my friend can I ask you a question I am using dvi-d connection does this makes a difference? am I pushing my monitor to it's limits and there is danger for my display ?
 
No danger. It's often used as a technique to remove aliasing at the loss of some frame rate of course. The term is down sampling as Porter mentioned.
