Am looking to get a bigger monitor then my U2410. I saw the samsung S27A650D and it fits the bill perfect. But I can't find any info on the monitor. How well would it do in games like BF3? I use Vysnc also And when I look at the specs for the monitor it lists the view angles as 178/160 isn't that a TN Panel then?

It's not a TN, it's a LED-backlit LCD MVA Panel. It does not have an HDMI input for console gaming, you could always use a DVI-HDMI cable. The response time is a little slow, probably wouldn't be a bad choice - though there are some FANTASTIC TN panels out there, I had two IPS displays, and I game with two TN panels and couldn't be happier.

I think I am going to buy this one. I just hope I can play BF3 without a problem. I do use Vysnc

The resolution on the 750 is too high. That's why I want the 650 :)

Wait Oh I was thinking of the 850D. I think the 750 is a TN panel, I don't want that

No I get it Tuesday. I was just laughing at Tokie's comment about "Go find it"

I just got it today. Much better looking picture compared to the u2711. Blacks and whites are really black and white. I do not have a fast paced game installed to test, but sc2/d3 had no noticeable issues.

Mine came with no stuck/dead pixels, flawless backlight uniformity. Just a slight edge light bleeding in the bottom right not noticeable.

Having no AG is really nice, picture so much more clearer 10 times over.

Hi, on the 27" version is the gamma shift (i.e. brightness and color uniformity) noticeable on the sides, compared to the center, when sitting at 1 m or less from the monitor ? This is best checked in the dark, with images like this. Thanks.

Just got mine today. I tried it out a bit at home for about 30 minutes before I had to go back to work. I jumped into a BF3 game real quick. I noticed no ghosting or input lag. It played fine to me. Colors were awesome just as good as my Dell U2410. View angles were also just as good as my Dell. One thing I really liked was no AG coating. Text is so much easier to read and see on this then the Dell was. BUT mine has some back light bleed on the bottom left and bottom right corner. It seems that most LED monitors have this right? I will do lots more testing when I get home. But first impression is good, its also very very thin...

Ok been playing with it for the last 2 hours or so. A few things I have noticed.

1. Blacks are deep black, in games sometimes its so black its hard to see a bit. I think that's called black crush
2. Response time on Normal, forget playing games it ghosts like crazy. At Faster and Fastest its fine and you can play games no problem
3. Their is some back light bleed at the bottom right and bottom left corner of the monitor.
4. Text is very sharp for such a high pitch. The screen coating I think helps. Its not quite glossy yet not quite matte screen either. I really like that.
5. Its super thin yet it doesn't bounce all over the place it seems well made and sturdy.
6. Very quiet no buzzing or humming coming from it.
7. Very simple looking I like that also. The bezel is lke a black aluminum feel to it
8. Colors are very deep and rich

Finally got to put some time in with the monitor.

Following Zod's outline

1. Black/White crush. Easily fixed by finding a good position for the monitor.
2. Using the Fastest response gave no impression of ghosting for me since I don't really play high action fast paced game I did not notice anything with the game I did play. sc2/d3/wow/l4d2/cs:s
3. My monitor is flawless just a slight bit of edge light bleeding in the bottom right, barely noticeable.
4. Text is very clear. Going from AG to semi-glossy helps a ton. I have moderate lightly and I get zero reflection.
5. The panel is very thin, the stand is solid no complains.
6. No sounds.
7. Design seems very similar to the Dell's, just the panel itself is much thinner.
8. I did very little configuring for the colors. Using standard preset with gamma mode 1 and color tone 1. Better then my old Dell 2209wa. Since I am not a graphics expert I am very happy.

After going though a HP ZR2740w > Samsung s27a950 > 2x Dell u2711's > Samsung s24a650d

I took the long way to get to an acceptable monitor for my liking, not to mention I saved 1/3 the money. But it paid off for me. Now if only I got the 27 inch over the 24 inch.

Even with the lack of information and reviews it was worth the gamble. I figured even with the lack of information, none of the information was saying how bad it was with most of the information being neutral or good. No bad news means good news correct? In this case yes.

Yeah I think I fixed the black crush thing. I had calibrated my monitor using the spyder3 pro. Well I turned it off and went back to factory defaults then lowered the brightness to about 60. I notice no black crush anymore its well lighted now and I can see. Its almost like the calibration messed things up. So the only thing that kind of annoys me is the back light bleed on the bottom left and right corners. its not alot but its their. I paid $500 for a 8 bit MVA panel that is very very nice.

For those who recently purchased this monitor, how well does it display the lagom black/white screens? After calibrating, that is.

And I will assume white is actual white, not dusty white?

Curious as to best pricing too. What does this monitor tend to go for on average? I've seen the 27"er at around $400 (if I was looking at the correct model), which seems very reasonable for a monitor that size.

How are the angles? Can you move your head side to side, or up/down, without the image darkening, as it does with TN panels?

And regarding the panel type, is the MVA in this one at least considered semi-decent? I am somewhat panel ignorant.

Well I can tell you Amazon has it for about $400. Which is pretty much what I paid. If I move my head from side to side I notice no real color shift. But I'm not an expert either. And to me it looks like a nice pure white. As of right now the only ding I would give it is some back light bleed on the bottom left and right corners. Its not alot by any means but their is some. View angles are good also. Although when looking at it from extreme up angle or left and right it does get washed out, but not nearly as bad as a TN panel. But IPS is still better in this regard. Text is razor shape and crystal clear. Unlike Dell monitors like the U2410 or U2711 with their heavy heavy AG coating which makes things like like crap...

I had to return my U2412 due to the coating, which is why I ask about this specific monitor. I am more concerned about vertical angles than horizontal, as I tend to lean back in my chair (or lead down), etc. On a TN, that results in the top of the screen darkening.

I wonder if anyone has an apple cinema display or good CRT they could compare this to? I really wish I could just go to the store and look over things before purchasing them... I tend to be picky, only LCD monitors I've seen that I've liked is the apple cinema display, but they are sooooo expensive. Glare isn't an issue for me so much. The backlight bleed... maybe. Depends how bad it is. If it's similar to IPS glow, I probably could live with it.

Leaning back in my chair I see no color shift or any change in color. It seems very good in that respect.

I sit somewhat close, and when I lean back the picture gets even better. When I was leaning back when I had my u2711's the picture got worse, most likely from the heavy backlight bleeding.

For me to cause major color/black/white shifts you need to be viewing from a unrealistic angle. If you where viewing from those angles I would be casing myself to have major neck issues.

In order to limit the dirty white affect/grey blacks you just need to position the monitor and configure colors too what you think are the best sittings. I am still trying to find the sweet spot for my position, think of it as playing a 3ds, trying to find the prefect spot where everything looks prefect. In the past it took me up to 2 weeks to finally get it right. I am still tweaking it.

I purchased my monitor from Buy.com I would have went though Amazon but the 24 inch was listed as a non-returnable item, where the 27 inch was not. TBH 27 inch monitors only looks good at 2560x1440+ vs 1080p just something about how text looks. Just does not sit well with me.

Overall I am very happy. Games that are dark look amazing. No ghosting from normal play, unless your specifically trying to cause ghosting your not going to notice. Only way I have done this was I got stuck inside a cart in d3, and my character started twisting and turning around at a rapid pace. I hooked up my old monitor and mirrored the affect and the same level of ghosting happened. This is very extreme of a test, but during normal game play I have not noticed anything if I was not specifically trying to cause it.

IMO just buy from Buy.com there return policy states you have 45 days to return an item for whatever reason no questions asked.
