Anyone have a clue when these new Samsung LED displays are going to hit the street?

i keep reading late March 2009 and late first quarter

so either today or tomorrow

probably not though. hopefully it's out before mid-april

the New Samsung Samsung P2370L looks nice with

White LEDs
Widescreen 23"
Resolution 1920×1080p
Ultra-thin, 16.5mm design
Ultra-high contrast ratio of 2M:1
Ultra fast 2ms (GTG) video response time
DVI-I Input
Offers a 1080p full-HD experience
Touch of Color” (ToC™) technology
Crystal-like bezel frame to help reduce glare
Swivel stand for optimal screen positioning
Starlight Touch Controls

It just like the 2494HS but without the 2ms and ratio of 2M:1

this thread is about the P2370L. No, that's not a typo. The P2370L uses LEDs as its backlight source, not CCFLs

the P2370 has been out for about a month. Reports about the P2370L from CES2009 stated that the L was supposed to be released late Q1, but we still haven't seen anything about it from retailers.

From what I read, this monitor was supposed to be released late 1st quarter. The 1st quarter ends March 31st so this is late to be released. Also, no HDMI, unless something has changed since CES.

I recently read somewhere that they are looking at June/July for this monitor now...

I don't know about June/July. I talked to Samsung recently; they said late May

Any updates on this monitor?

Samsung is heavily marketing their LED TVs but I couldn't find any news on their LED monitors.

Weird that pretty much every new laptop, even sub $400 netbooks, come standard with LED-backlit displays yet (besides Dell's green line) not a single mainstream LED monitor on the market.

My only guess for the delay is a surplus inventory of LCD monitors.

Sucks for those in the market for a new monitor.

I gave up on it and bought the Dell G2410. I'm very happy with it so far and it was half the estimated price of the P2370.

Same here, waited quite a while for the P2370L and decided to go with the Dell G2410 instead. Couldn't be happier also because I realized I couldn't have used a Glossy screen in my location (extreme ambient light) and the Dell one is Matte.

Yes, the p2370L screen is matte, but the surrounding bezel is glossy. The less glossy anything the better IMO (less eyestrain if there is a bright light in the background causing reflections).

ah i see, my bad

anyways, any updates on this product? i've tried checking the best buy stock and shipment program and nothing comes up about p2370l at any best buy store

Nice (I think).

Does "Other Parts Of The World" include the US? I'm surprised it's being released in Europe before the US.

I just hope BBY stocks it in August so I can get it with my employee discount before I head back to school.

I, like many others, have been waiting patiently for the Samsung P2370L to show up. Like sippm says, maybe the XL2370 is a replacement for the P2370L that never arrived and, curiously, at the current rate of exchange, the 281 Euros price quoted in the article I read, is actually slightly below what the P2370L was going to be selling for. So, now we wait and see if this one, which is supposedly going to arrive in the USA sometime in August, ever shows up?? ( No, I won't hold my breath!) Yes, it appears to be another TN panel and I know they have several disadvantages but, for what I use it for, and assuming the picture quality, helped by the LED backlighting, is as good as I'm hoping, I'll hold off and wait (again!).

I too have been patiently waiting to see if this monitor turns out. If it is indeed LED backlit, this will be one of the few exceptions where I might reconsider TN if it looks good.

LG is also coming out with an LED backlit (with really ugly stand), so I think these are finally going to hit the market.

Where have you seen the price quote? I never saw one. I'd be interested in seeing that. If that price is right (and in euros!) this will actually be a competitive monitor.

That said, I've personally speculated that this is a money grab by Samsung after seeing good demand for their LED TVs and Apple's high margins. They locked themselves in with the $399 MSRP in their January press releases, and now I think its really been just a matter them wanting to remarket this as their "premium" line with "premium" prices using a slightly new "XL" moniker and a pumped up DCR, which is probably the same hardware but a different DCR measurement. Or, this could all just be due to LCD shortages. We'll never know I guess.

I'll still be testing one out in August =)

From what I've heard, LED-backlit monitors tend to have serious uniformity problems...

From what I've heard, LED-backlit monitors tend to have serious uniformity problems...

is this because of an underlying design flaw of LED backlights (edgelit) or is it a flaw in the way that manufacturers implement edgelit LED backlights?

because if it has been a flaw in the implementation of this hardware, then it's definitely possible that Samsung may implement them differently for this monitor.

then again, if it's a flaw with the hardware, then it won't matter haha.

i don't understand why edgelit LED backlights would have more uniformity issues than their CCFL counterparts.

someone throw down some knowledge on this shiv.

Check out this site, price is quoted,

Comes out in August, huh? Hope that this isn't vaporware and that it lives up to the hype. If it does, it definitely goes onto my must buy list.

Thanks. It should be noted though that the cite referenced above is linking and taking info from this one: http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-18429-Samsung+SyncMaster+XL2370+LED+Monitor.html. The originating site doesn't look like they did much fact checking ---- they say its a 20.1" display and 500,000 DCR (typo?).

Also I'm confused as to why they would quote in Euro if its only for sale in Korea right now.

I think we'll have to see how this plays out.

I wasn't talking about edge-lighting, but back-lighting.

I wasn't talking about edge-lighting, but back-lighting.

oh ok. well from what I've read about the P2370L (which is most likely all that the XL2370 is in reality), it uses LED edge-lighting.

i could be wrong though.

The P2370L has been rechristened as the XL2370 with slightly better specs. The list price still looks to be $399.

The rumored availability in now late August or early September.
