From what I've heard, LED-backlit monitors tend to have serious uniformity problems...
Check out this site, price is quoted,I too have been patiently waiting to see if this monitor turns out. If it is indeed LED backlit, this will be one of the few exceptions where I might reconsider TN if it looks good.
LG is also coming out with an LED backlit (with really ugly stand), so I think these are finally going to hit the market.
Where have you seen the price quote? I never saw one. I'd be interested in seeing that. If that price is right (and in euros!) this will actually be a competitive monitor.
That said, I've personally speculated that this is a money grab by Samsung after seeing good demand for their LED TVs and Apple's high margins. They locked themselves in with the $399 MSRP in their January press releases, and now I think its really been just a matter them wanting to remarket this as their "premium" line with "premium" prices using a slightly new "XL" moniker and a pumped up DCR, which is probably the same hardware but a different DCR measurement. Or, this could all just be due to LCD shortages. We'll never know I guess.
I'll still be testing one out in August =)

I wasn't talking about edge-lighting, but back-lighting.is this because of an underlying design flaw of LED backlights (edgelit) or is it a flaw in the way that manufacturers implement edgelit LED backlights?
