Hi,
Recently, I have connected an older Samsung HD502IJ HDD to my PC.
The parameter B8(End-to-End error) has dropped to 1, when I started my PC( I was monitoring it with a SMART tool), and I was warned that it may fail soon.
The first thing that I did was to change the SATA cable, thinking that a faulty cable could be the cause to End-to-End errors. But, as expected, the SMART parameter did not reset itself. So, I don't actually know if it really was a faulty cable or failing HDD.
I want to mention that with the same cable I had some trouble in the past with an WD 3200AAKS HDD, that wasn't seen by the motherboard. I remember that after Imoved it a bit, everything got OK.
Now I'm worried....
1)Could it be just a coincidence, or that Samsung got sudden problems? Is there a way to check this? Can I somehow reset that B8 param?
2)What does parameter B8 indicate? A number of erros that occured into an internal memory chip?
3) Should I try to backup first(am I risking a corrupt backup due to these end-to-end errors?) or run ES Tool?
4)What would you do?
5) I'm also concerned about the fact that if I RMA it, I will receive a recertified one.
And this drive was working fine until now, no SMART problems, etc...
Warranty expires in 09/2011.
