Just got my F4's in, i recall somewhere that you needed to get updated firmware for them, is this still applicable?

If so, do I need to be in windows for this? the box is a linux server for us, and is just waiting for the 10TB to enter it :D

also, any suggestions on the best way to set em up? Not going to do RAID, all the data is reproducible so not much reason to, and speed is not needed.

All of them will be on a P67 Sabertooth

edit: want to keep each drive as a separate drive/partition on the system, so i'm assuming just plug in and use is the easiest/best way to get what we want, right ?

it depends on the firmware version/manufacture date.
but in my opinion just go ahead and download the firmware update and update your f4 2tb drives firmware.
you need to boot into dos (i used http://www.freedos.org/ to get into dos, boot from cd)
then all you need to do is run the f4eg.exe file, and it will update the attached samsung drives

also backup your data on the drives if you currently have stuff on them just in case.

If they have a manufacture date of 12/10 or later then you don't need to update.

looks like they are all 03.2011

thats the only date like number i can find on the drives (it says 2011.03 )

just got the drives, they are going in the box this weekend,

thanks for the info there guys

oh.... 12/10 is ok?

lol i thought 12/2010 was when they rolled out the update (sometime mid Dec), so to be safe if you have 12/10 I'd flash it still.

I have 5 which are 02/2011 which I did not flash, but the one that is 12/2010 I did flash just in case..

do you have to format the drivers when you update the firmware, is it a good idea to backup the drives first ?

all of mine are 03/2011 ;) so i would assume it has the good firmware then, right?
