So my power button stopped working, tried taking off the plastic button and pressing the physical buttons with no luck. I tried the camera trick to lock the phone while in the camera but the button still doesn't respond.

The only way for it to the screen to come up is if I get a text, take out the battery and put it back in or plug it in otherwise I have no way for my phone to open up?
Has anyone experienced this before or might know of some fixes?
Otherwise I can either get an insurance phone which will be refurb and I've heard it isn't worth or upgrade which either way it's going to cost a good sum of money.:(

You could install WidgetLocker. It's a lockscreen app that lets you add widgets and custom sliders, and allows you to use any hardware button to wake your phone. You just have to go into WidgetLocker's settings, click buttons & inputs, and enable easy wake mode. It does cost $2.99, but it should solve your problem. Someone else might know of another app that just does what you're looking for without the extra stuff for free..

It works on my Mesmerize, another Galaxy S phone, so it should work on your Captivate.
