The 960BF has 4ms faster... but it only has 16.2 colors
and the 970P is $50 (CAD) more expensive and is 6ms and has 16.7 colors

the 960BF disadvantage is the fact that u cant tilt the screen backwards... it just bends forwards.... (hard to explain but upon looking at the image u can tell)...

the 970P has nice design, but the base i heard is TOO bulky....

I like the 950B (which appears to be only on the canadian website).... the design is simple and elegant... but i cant find it being sold anywhere in Canada or in a online store that ships to Canada?!?!?!

So which would u recommend?
I want close to perfection, amazing color representation, best response time (althought im not a hardcore gamer).... elegent design, and good price....

thnx in advance!

Well if you want amazing color I would say go with 16.7...when they say 16.2 they are lying...from what i've been reading anyways...

Heres a really good read about 6 bit vs 8 bit. I have no idea how they turn 262,144 colors of a 6 bit into 16.2 million what kind of BS is that?

The only question is, how noticable is the difference? Heck if I know.

I would definitely take the 970P. It is the better panel (Samsung PVA versus a run-of-the-mill TN panel). Once you use an 8-bit panel, looking at a 6-bit panel is a huge disappointment. The 970P will have much better "colour representation".

i think there is some confusing information here in this thread. The 930BF is a 6 bit colour depth panel, based on TN Film technology. It only produces 256k colours, but uses a process called dithering to produce a visable 16.2 million colours. You do not need to worry about colour reproduction qualities of modern TN Film panels. There have been big advancements in this sector over the last couple of years, and some of the screen offer very accurate colours. For instance, the colour reproduction graph for the 930BF:

(in case you aren;t familiar with these graphs, see here)

Perhaps one are which the TN Film panels have always traditionally suffered is in their black depth. Again, there has been some good improvements, and this Samsung panel (and used in loads of other models too) is a good example of a panel which can offer a pretty decent black depth. This is still a weakness of TN Film, but black depth is certainly not as bad as some older TN panels

However, VA panels (like the PVA panel in the 970P) can offer a true 8 bit colour depth, and don't need dithering to offer 16.7million colours. Colour reproduction is generally good on these screen and can often be better than TN Film panels. Don't get me wrong, some people would tell a difference, but to an average user, it would be quite hard to tell the difference in colour quality / accuracy between a VA and a TN panel imo. Black depth is a little deeper, but again, an average user would be hard pressed to tell a difference. As a comparison to the colour reproduction graph above for the 930BF, here is the graph for the 970P:

delta970p3gl.jpg

Black depth is rated at 0.21 according to third party testing at Tom's Hardware Guide while the 930BF was rated at 0.3. So there is a slight improvement in black depth as can be expected, but as you can see, the TN Film panel can still offer excellent colour reproduction.

Anyway, just wanted to add some details about the overexagerated emphasis on coloour reproduction regarding TN vs PVA. If you want superior colour reproduction then the 970P does have the edge over the 930Bf i would say, but not massively. The 970P is still very responsive really, and since you're not looking for a gaming only monitor, then an all rounder like the 970P might be a better choice than getting the 930Bf which is essentially a gaming monitor by design.

6-bit panels are still 6-bit panels. As much as they have advanced thus far, dithering is still an issue.

of course, they only have a 6 bit colour depth, but it isn't as easy as some people make out to tell the difference between 16.2 million reproducable colours and 16.7 million....with or without dithering. Some people place too much emphasis on the whole 8 bit vs 6 bit, that is all i was saying really :)
