i've been looking at that monitor myself. haven't decided between this and samsung 215tw. if you decide to buy it, get it from circuitcity.com. they sell at $410. best price on the web. newegg asks for $530.

wow nice... thanks for the heads up...

do they deliever to canada?
Cause newegg.com doesnt :(

Saeid,

I saw this at Best Buy in Canada (Heartland location) last weekend. Just wanted to let you know

thnx... ya i saw this at Futureshop today too.... it is going for $569 CAD before TAX of course... the 14% tax will screw us over, huh? :S

I decided on the Samsung 940MW and I am WAY impressed. I got it for $410 - no rebates, no shipping waits, nothing. Wireless remote, PIP, very good included speakers, awesome menu options, VERY bright, and I can see everything - even when the environment is dark. The ONLY downside to this monitor is the resolution - 1440x900. If they made a 20" that did 1680x1050, THAT would be a killer.

This thing ROCKS. There is NOTHING that compares to it without spending at least $200 - $300 more - that is if you are looking for widescreen and HDCP. Honestly, I am really blown away by it.

1. Is it matte or glossy?

2. How does it handle other sources like Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, Satelite TV via S-video, etc? Does it scale well enough?

3. Are the speakers decent enough to where ~$50 Creative I-Trigue 2.0's would be unnecessary? (Serious movie/game/whatever audio use would be done through headphones).

Ya i know.... i bought the 940MW today, but havent had the time to open it.... been cleaning and preparing for Norouz 2565 tomorrow (Iranian New Years) at 10:25:35 AM PST

I paid around $584 CAD after tax... it comes to around $503 US.... is that a good price???

I opened the box, and i discovered that is only came with VGA Cable.... and no DVI...

@inthewolfden : did your come with DVI???? and how much did u end up paying after TAX (the final price)???

Tax in BC, Canada is 14%, it really screws you over.... the price was $512.99 CAD and with tax went up to $584 CAD

Speakers arent that bad, a dedicated ~$50 2.1 system or above would be way better.
The monitor is perfect in my opinion for sheer quality, the vast amount of inputs, the dvi(HDCP), PIP, Its the perfect monitor for 720p!

Heres the 360 Through Component:

Mmmph.. that looks good.

Is the screen glossy or matte, and any thoughts on less HD sources like Xbox and PS2?

The screen is matte, heres the 360 on the yellow composite video in (I dont have anything with standard svideo) If you were gonna use an xbox 1 or ps2 id highly reccomend getting component cables for them. Normal Video in will look quite good though.

I apologize if I said it comes with a DVI. It doesn't. I still love it. Screen is matte. I have not tried cable TV yet, but I will be soon. As fas as scaling, I thought the monitor did that very well on what I have seen. Also, it does have a 4:3 mode too.

$500 CAN is a good price for sure. Some people are paying close to that is US. Mine was $410 US plus tax which is the cheapest that you can buy one for from a retailer as far as I have seen.

Thnx dude..
ya i hooked it up... and im loving it..... although the quality can be better with DVI.... ;)

but one thing thats gotten me worried....

ppl with the 940MW, set the "MagicBright" on Entertain and/or increase the brightness to above 95...... i hear a high pitched buzz, that pretty loud, unless u have the volume on high!

do u guys get that too??? or do i have a faulty device?

p.s. mine is made in Mexico.... i thought samsung monitors were usually made in eastern asian countries?!?!

NO BUZZING HERE IM AFRAID!

Ok here's how to check if yours buzzes...

i just turned my monitor on, and put it on "Entertainment mode" and there is no buzzing AT ALL....... apparently after afew hours of use (the monitor left turned on).... THEN switch to "Entertainment mode" it buzzes on mine...

can you guys please try this and let me know if yours buzzes too?

.... i just turned mine on and there is no buzzing.... i'll try and record a video with the buzzing after an hour....

Thnx.....

i meant, it could be better than it already is... :)

Inthewolfden and Rash: any word on the entertainment mode buzz, after the monitor has been left on for more than half an hour in any of the other modes?

Here you go, the buzzing sound is heard when sitting infront of the monitor, but on camera it wouldnt record it, so i had to record the back of the monitor so the source of the sound was closer to the monitor.......

and now its got a BRIGHT pixel.... :(

Mine is made in Mexico, made on Feb 2006....
